How To Activate Your Growth

Maybe your sales have seen a dip, or your community don't seem as engaged as they used to.

Maybe you're hearing a lot about AI tools and wondering whether you should be using them, and if so, which ones. Maybe you're starting to feel left behind. Never fear! This is a simple method we use to reactivate the growth of dozens of social enterprises and small businesses, and it mostly uses the old fashioned technique of talking to people.

Here's a process we use to create a feedback loop for growth, to turn customer data into insights that enormously lower the costs of your digital ads.

  1. Run hour-long customer interviews with 5 people in your target market to understand: what problem does your product solve for them? Are they spending money to solve it? What can you do better than the thing they're paying money for?
  2. You'll learn you have false assumptions about who your target market is. Do 5 more interviews with the right people. Then do surveys.
  3. Convert insights into product recommendations: for example, increase the price, add a specific feature or product line that solves a major pain point people will pay for. Don't be distracted by small feature requests that people won't actually pay for. People love to complain and offer advice, but you're trying to figure out the things that will make people move. I offer them the thing they've asked for on the spot just to see how much they actually want the problem solved.
  4. Explore the new target markets that the interviews have uncovered.
  5. Review Google Analytics to understand how people are using your site: where are the blockages, when are they leaving the site and why, what's causing them to bounce without buying? Use the 'Explore' custom reports feature to look at page flows and see where people drop off.
  6. Add search term tracking to your Google Analytics configuration so you know what search terms people are using to come to your page: what are they looking for when they arrive?
  7. Use Google Trends to determine keyword opportunities for your business: what are people searching for? When are they missing out on finding you?
  8. Draft blogs based on keyword trends to help your website rank on google for popular terms (SEO, GEO, AIO)
  9. Review your website for visual design, SEO, usability, content clarity and sales funnel
  10. Update your website to improve visual design, SEO, usability, content clarity and sales funnel
  11. Now that we understand who your customers are and what they want, we can identify new channels to reach them. Where are they already hanging out online? What networks are they part of? What newsletters do they read? How can we get in front of them through those channels?
  12. Implement network effects to grow your community, such as referral schemes, incentives to share your brand on social media, discounts to invite friends to come along to an event, etc.
  13. Create social media video ads for promotion. Employ hyper-niche audience targeting to bring the cost of your digital ads down enormously.
  14. Draft LinkedIn posts for key staff to promote the ads and blogs, giving them more backlinks to the website to further improve SEO.
